of nightmares and dreams

I just woke up from a strange nightmare. Strange, because of the million nightmares that plagued my childhood and some of my latter years, this one ended differently.

Do our dreams change because we do? Or after all these years my subconscious mind finally got creative and tried something new.

My old nightmares usually starts like a normal day in some random location I've been to... random creatures attack, sometimes werewolves, vampires ,zombies, aliens , UCM (unidentified creepy monsters)... all hell breaks lose, people die and I get chased out by random monsters and the scene would shift to my childhood home with all the monsters chasing me still tagging along and the scene shifts to my grandma's house.
I usually manage to conk monsters in the head, smashed them to smithereens but a lot of them survive and are still out to get me. With some last reserve of energy, i would run, flap my arms and begin to soar, leaving most of the creatures chasing me behind. I would soar on top of buildings, mountains, then break into the sky leaving everything behind me. I would go even higher and just when I reach out to the stars I would find my fingers scraping glass ,find myself trapped in a glass bowl, nowhere to go, never breaking out, stuck.

But, this morning it was different.

I was on top of a terrace, paranoid. I called out for someone to please take me to shrink because i'm losing it...losing my mind because the statue surrounding me just blinked. Someone beside me told me that I wasn't losing my head, and that it was real. He handed me a rod and gripped one himself , a few minutes later the statues started attacking us and we had to fight all of them off. Come daybreak, we were surrounded by chunks of broken statue . We found ourselves with a group of elders who told me they were taking me to this really old house...for what purpose, I can not really remember. They told me that thy would keep me in a safe place and they would protect me. I told them all I need was this man to help me out, I trust him because he was the one who helped me survive the previous night.
Suddenly the attacks started again, as one the group of elders formed a ring around me. Surrounded me in layers and moved me to the farthest corner, and they started counting off. I thought, ok...it's going to be ok, they have a ritual to protect me. The waves of attack went on until I realized, the layers were thinning and they were actually not doing anything to fight the attacks off, they were just all huddled together sacrificing themselves, hoping that daybreak would come soon enough and that I would still be safe. With that realization, I jumped out of the window and started running. Away.

I found myself in the previous terrace, a huge stone building, and foumd myself in the center of a group of people, my age and younger, and I realized, nobody knows...nobody knows about what happens at night, nobody knows about the elders sacrifice, nobody knows how the statues turn, and nobody knows that there is a way to fight. And unless they know...we are all doomed.
So in my loudest voice I hollered, and told them about the creatures of the night, about the attacks, and the things soon to come, and that if we don't do things together then there's nothing left but death, and to my surprise kids, people, starting grouping together collecting iron rods, starting to practice fighting together, forming up shelters, fortifying the walls and finding ways to survive...

And for the first time ... I woke up from a nightmare not shivering in fear, not tear streaked. I had only one thought...WE CAN DO IT.
